Fresh, homemade marinara with a little kick. Serve over your favorite pasta, spaghetti squash, or chicken or fish with a little grated Parmesan or mozzarella! Yields about four 1/2-cup servings.

Recipe Ingredients for Marinara Sauce

15 oz crushed tomatoes
1 tbsp olive oil
1/4 cup chopped fresh basil
1 tsp minced garlic
1/2 cup chopped white onion
1 tsp red pepper flakes
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1 cup chopped mushrooms
1 tsp dried oregano
1 medium tomato, chopped

Recipe Directions for Marinara Sauce

  1. Warm the olive over medium high heat in a saute pan.

  2. Add garlic, onion, and mushrooms and saute until onions are translucent and garlic is lightly browned and mushrooms are cooked through.

  3. Stir in crushed tomatoes, chopped tomato, red pepper flakes, and oregano. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat.

  4. Stir in basil, salt and pepper and simmer another minute or two to bring together flavors.
