Vegan Active ingredients to combat the sniffles, etc: crushed red pepper, fresh ginger, fresh garlic, miso Garlic boosts the immune system (especially fresh garlic) Spicy foods (crushed red pepper) clear out the sinuses (so--the hotter you can stand it, the better..feel free to spice it up!) Fresh ginger aids nausea. When combined with garlic it has anti-virul properties. Steaming hot soup helps the throat and makes ya warm when you're sick. If you're really adventurous: try fresh raw garlic...or a tea made of fresh ginger, hot water, and honey. Happy Getting Better! :)

Recipe Ingredients for Maria's "Get Better Fast!" Soup

2 oz. vegetable broth
32 oz. water
1 onion
3 cloves garlic
2 tbsp. fresh ginger
2 tbsp. crushed red pepper
2 tsp. tamari
1/4 cup carrots
1/2 cup miso
1 tsp. sesame oil
3 tbsp. extra virgin olive oil
1 cup kale

Recipe Directions for Maria's "Get Better Fast!" Soup

  1. Saute garlic, onion, & ginger in olive oil

  2. add crushed red pepper - saute for about 3 minutes

  3. add veggie broth and water--bring to boil

  4. reduce to a simmer and add in miso

  5. Miso tips: take a table spoon at a time, put into ladle, submerge in broth and slowly mix

  6. add carrots, kale, soy sauce, & sesame oil

  7. simmer until kale is soft

  8. Eat broth alone or pour over soba noodle

  9. Note: You can cut back on soy sauce for sodium intake reasons.
