Recipe Ingredients for Mariam's cooked cabbage

1 head, medium (about 5-3/4" dia) Cabbage
1/2 medium (approx 2-3/4" long, 2-1/2" dia) Peppers, Sweet, Green
1 serving side meat grease
1/2 tsp Salt
1 tsp Pepper, Black
1 tsp. sugar

Recipe Directions for Mariam's cooked cabbage

  1. Slice cabbage and chop pepper. Place in saucepan and add some water but not enough to cover the cabbage. Cabbage will wilt down to about half.

  2. Add salt. Start with only about 1/2 tsp. salt. Cook out fat meat in fry pan and use about 1 tbsp. of the grease. If meat does not render out that much make up the difference with canola oil. When meat is fried, remove and add a little of the cabbage to remove the fond from the bottom of the pan and add back to cabbage. Cook until only a very small amount of water remains in bottom of pot. If you prefer totally dry out.
