A czech dessert my great-grandmother used to make all the time with some healthier substitutions.

Recipe Ingredients for Mamatines Kolaches

4 1/2 tbsp sugar
1 cups warm milk
1 packages dry yeast
2 1/2 cups flour
2 tbsp 39% Vegetable Oil Spread
1 banana
1 egg
2 cups flour
1 lb strawberries
2 cups sugar
1/2 cups water

Recipe Directions for Mamatines Kolaches

  1. In a large bowl, combine sugar and warm milk, sprinkle yeast on top and let stand in warm place until the yeast bubbles.

  2. Add 2.5 cups of flour to make a soft dough. Beat well.

  3. Let stand in warm place until double. (~30-40 minutes)

  4. Add banana puree, melted butter and eggs, beat well.

  5. Add 3 cups flour so dough is not too thick and beat well.

  6. Let stand until double.

  7. Roll dough into balls and place on 3 well greased baking sheets, let rise until double.

  8. Make wells in the middle of each kolache and fill with cooked fruit.

  9. Bake a 400 degrees Fahrenhiet for 10 minutes or until slightly brown.

  10. Fruit:

  11. Put diced strawberries, 2 1/2 cups sugar, and water into a pot.

  12. Heat on medium heat until boiling, then mix in corn starch.

  13. Bring to a simmer after corn starch dissolves. Simmer until fruit is tender.

  14. Take of heat and let cool before using.
