A hearty soup for lunch or dinner, created by my mom.

Recipe Ingredients for Mama's German Lentil Soup

6 cups water
1 cup lentils
3 bouillon cubes, chicken
1/2 large carrot
1/2 leek
3 oz. celery root
6 medium slices bacon

Recipe Directions for Mama's German Lentil Soup

  1. Cut the vegetables into small cubes and leek into thin slices. Bring water to a boil and add the vegetables, lentils and bouillon cubes. Cover and let simmer on low for 45-60 mins. Meanwhile cut the bacon into small pieces and cook until crisp. Put on a paper towel to absorbed fat. When vegetables are cooked tender, add salt and pepper to taste and add bacon. Serve hot!

  2. If desired, add 1 tbsp. vinegar, to add a little sour finish.
