How can I make people stop calling me skinny?
Asked by anonymous on Sep 21, 2010 in Emotional & Behavioral Issues

I’m 5'5", 125 pounds, which is a healthy BMI, but I have had people call me skinny and it really gets to me. How do I make it stop or at least stop thinking about the comments! I physically cannot eat anymore and it is really getting to me.

At 5'5", 125 pounds, your BMI is 21, within the healthy range, but if you are male, it would not be unusual to feel too thin at that weight. Perhaps people pick on you because your weight is different, and considering that in America, 28 percent of the population is obese and 68 percent is overweight, you are in the minority. It doesn’t pay to get upset because that gives your critics more power.  Instead, ignore the comments by walking away or pretending not to hear, or tell the instigator to "Stop It!" and then go find your friends. You can also keep your mind occupied with pleasant thoughts until you get away and, ultimately, you can take solace in knowing that you are healthy. If you are young, be assured that you will "fill out."
