Classic Better Homes and Garden Recipe, the super high calorie, high fat one our Mom's made. Although, when I'm in the mood for this i can eat half the recipe and Mom would serve her family of six with it.

Recipe Ingredients for Macaroni and Cheese

2 cups dried elbow macaroni
1/2 cup chopped onion
2 tbsp margarine
2 tbsp flour
1/8 tsp black pepper
2 1/2 cup skim milk
3 cups shredded cheddar cheese

Recipe Directions for Macaroni and Cheese

  1. Cook macaroni according to package directions. Drain; set aside.

  2. In a medium saucepan cook onion in hot margarine until tender but not brown. Stir in flour and peppr. Add milk all at once. Cook and stir over medium heat until slightly thickened and bubbly. Add 1/3 of the cheese, stirring until melted. Stir in cooked macaroni. Transfer mixture to a 2 quart casserole.

  3. Cover casserole with remaining cheese.

  4. Bake, uncovered in a 350 degree oven for 25 to 30 minutes or until bubbly and heated through.

  5. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.
