Not really a casserole per say, but you can add all kinds of veggies and protein to this, and if you really want, put some bread crumbs on top but I don't much care for that.

Recipe Ingredients for Macaroni and Cheese Casserole

3 tbsp butter
3 tbsp flour
1 tbsp ground mustard
1 tsp paprika
3 cups milk
1 large egg
10 oz macaroni
12 oz cheddar
1 cup shredded cheese
1 tsp salt
1 Pepper to taste

Recipe Directions for Macaroni and Cheese Casserole

  1. Cook pasta until al dente (they will soften more when baked so don't over cook!)

  2. Melt butter, mix in flour and ground mustard, whisk for 5 minutes or until golden brown. Mix in milk, not too slowly, or it will get lumpy. Season to taste with salt, pepper, and paprika. Stir for 10 minutes, mix in egg. Continue to mix in for a few minutes and start adding cheese. Melt cheese, constantly stiring and mix in with macaroni in a 9x13 casserole dish.

  3. Top with shredded cheese, if you like.

  4. Cook at 350 Degrees for 30 minutes. Let stand at least 10 minutes before serving.
