A comfort food without the cheese

Recipe Ingredients for Mac N No Cheese

6 oz. whole wheat macaroni
1/2 cup onion
1 teaspoon olive oil
3/4 cup nonfat milk
2 teaspoons cornstarch
2 tablespoons water
1/4 cup nutritional yeast
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
12 grams crackers, saltines
1/2 teaspoon basil

Recipe Directions for Mac N No Cheese

  1. cook the macaroni in boiling water, drain and set aside.

  2. chop onion and saute in olive oil using medium saucepan.

  3. When lightly brown add the milk and bring to a boil.

  4. Mix the cornstarch into the water, then whisk into the boiling milk.

  5. Stir in the yeast, you can use more if you want, and the dry mustard.

  6. Cook for a few minutes over low heat.

  7. Mix sauce and macaroni and cook in casserole dish (or small dishes) in a 350 deg. onion for about 20 minutes.

  8. Process bread with basil, add salt and pepper and sprinkle crumbs over casserole.

  9. bake about 10 minutes more and eat!
