Fannie Farmer's Classic Baked Macaroni and Cheese

Recipe Ingredients for Mac-n-Cheese

8 oz. macaroni
4 tablespoons margarine
4 tablespoons flour
1 cup 1% milk
1 cup cream
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 cup bread crumbs

Recipe Directions for Mac-n-Cheese

  1. preheat oven to 400 degrees

  2. cook and drain pasta and set aside

  3. in a large saucepan melt margarine

  4. add flour, salt and pepper gradually stirring with a whisk

  5. bring to a boil and cook 2 minutes stirring constantly

  6. reduce heat and cook 10 minutes stirring constantly

  7. add cheddar and simmer until cheese is completely melted

  8. mix cheese mixture with pasta in a square baking dish

  9. sprinkle with bread crumbs

  10. bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown
