Recipe Ingredients for Mabel's Honey Whole-Wheat Bread

2 packages yeast
1 1/2 cups water, hot
1/2 cup honey
1 1/2 tbsp salt
1 1/2 cups skim milk, luke warm
4 1/2 tbsp oleo, melted
2 eggs, slightly beaten
5 1/2 cups white flour
3 3/4 cups whole wheat flour

Recipe Directions for Mabel's Honey Whole-Wheat Bread

  1. Put water in large bowl with yeast; add honey.

  2. Put in oven until yeast foams.

  3. Add salt and mix.

  4. Add milk, oleo, and eggs; stir to blend.

  5. Gradually add 2 cups white flour and 1 3/4 cups whole wheat flour; let stand for 20 minutes or so.

  6. Add remaining flours, alternately until form soft dough.

  7. Turn out onto floured or oiled board and knead until smooth (about 10-12 minutes).

  8. Return to greased bowl, cover and let rise until doubled in size and finger pressed in center leaves an indentation.

  9. Punch dough down and halve. Form each half into loaf and place in greased bread pan.

  10. Let rise again. When double in size, place in 350 degree oven for 45-60 minutes or until golden brown in top and bottom of pan sizzles when touched with wet finger.
