An easy quick lentil soup with an Indian flavour. Had to edit to get the calories right.

Recipe Ingredients for Lowfat Dal

3/4 cup chopped onion
1/3 cup chopped potato
1/4 cup chopped yam
1/3 cup lentils
1 clove garlic
1/4 oz. fresh ginger
1 teaspoon curry powder
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Recipe Directions for Lowfat Dal

  1. Place everything into saucepan (just use 200 grams of toor dal lentils raw and about 5 cups water) except for the curry powder, cayenne pepper and tomato.

  2. Bring to a boil, then simmer over low heat until yam is soft and lentils are done, about 20 minutes.

  3. Add curry powder and cayenne pepper to taste. Simmer 5 minutes more.

  4. Stir in chopped tomato. Remove from heat and let stand 5 minutes before serving.
