Experimenting with my regular granola recipe to reduce fat by eliminating oil and replacing honey with maple syrup and apple juice.

Recipe Ingredients for Low-Fat Granola

3 cups rolled oats
1 1/2 cup wheat germ
1 cup walnuts, coarsely chopped
1/2 cup sesame seeds
1/2 cup flax seeds
1 cup sunflower seeds, hulled
1/4 cup maple syrup
1/4 cup apple juice
1/2 cup raisins

Recipe Directions for Low-Fat Granola

  1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees.

  2. Scatter dry ingredients (but not raisins) in a 13x9-inch pan and toast about 15 minutes.

  3. Heat maple syrup and apple juice together in a sauce pan until warm and easy to combine.

  4. Pour syrup-juice combination over toasted oats and nuts, stir, toast 15 minutes longer or until ingredients are toasted.

  5. Stir in raisins. Cool and store in tightly covered container.
