Recipe Ingredients for Lisa's Spaghetti With Meat Sauce

3 T olive oil
2 oz. shallots, diced
1 green onion, chopped fine
2 tsp garlic, chopped
1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
28 oz. tomato sauce, italian
14 oz. diced tomatoes
6 oz. tomato paste
1 tsp. basil leaves, dried
1 tsp. oregano leaves, dried
2 T basil, fresh, chopped
16 oz. lean hamburger
12 oz. mushrooms, fresh, sliced (1 box)
6 oz. red wine
4 oz. chicken stock
1/2 tsp kosher salt
1/2 tsp pepper, freshly ground

Recipe Directions for Lisa's Spaghetti With Meat Sauce

  1. Heat olive oil in large sauce pan with onions and garlic over medium heat until transluscent. Add red pepper flakes, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, and pepper; stir. Add in hamburger and cook together until browned. Add mushrooms and cook down until much of the water is out of the mushrooms. Drain.

  2. Take potato masher and mash diced or whole tomatoes (14 oz can) completely in a separate bowl. Add italian tomato sauce, red wine, chicken stock and stir.

  3. Add the bowl of ingredients to the hamburger/mushroom mixture and add 2 T. sugar and the chopped fresh basil. Heat to boiling, then turn to low and simmer for approximately 30 minutes.

  4. Serve over separately prepared spaghetti according to package directions.
