An easy homemade stovetop version of macaroni and cheese.

Recipe Ingredients for Linda's Macaroni and Cheese

5 cups uncooked elbow macaroni
4 tbsp butter
4 tbsp whole wheat flour
1 tsp salt
1/8 tsp pepper
1 1/3 cups skim milk
1 cup monterey jack cheese, grated

Recipe Directions for Linda's Macaroni and Cheese

  1. Cook macaroni in saucepan. Drain.

  2. While the macaroni is cooking, melt butter in another saucepan. Stir in flour, salt and pepper. Slowly add milk, stirring constantly until mixture thickens. Turn off burner and stir in cheese.

  3. Pore cheese sauce over drained macaroni and stir them together thoroughly.

  4. Optional additions: tuna, peas, finely chopped onions.
