Very famous (and fatty...) waffles from Liège, caramelized with sugar crumbs. Hmmm...

Recipe Ingredients for Liège Waffles

300 g butter
50 g sugar
1 tsp vanilla essence
1 tsp cinnamon
3 eggs
750 g flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1 tbsp yeast
270 ml milk
450 g sugar, crumbs (either sugar crumbs or broken sugar cubes)

Recipe Directions for Liège Waffles

  1. Cream the butter with sugar. Add vanilla, cinnamon and eggs.

  2. Mix flour with salt, baking powder and yeast.

  3. Alternately add flour mix and milk to butter mixture.

  4. Knead for 10 minutes and let rise for one hour. Knead in sugar crumbs. Cook for no more than 4 minutes on lower heat setting.
