Great, home-made lean burgers with all the fixings! It usually costs me about $5 for the meat, and $2 for the buns. The rest are usually in my fridge anyway, making this a pretty cheap dinner that feeds many! Since we are a family of two, and will probably only eat two or three patties between us, we wrap the rest in tin foil or wax paper and put it in a ziploc and save it for another day.

Recipe Ingredients for Lean Burgers

1 lb lean ground meat
1/2 cup bread crumbs
1 egg
8 whole wheat hamburger buns
1/4 head of butter lettuce
8 slices of cheddar
8 slices of tomato
8 teaspoons of mayo
8 teaspoons of ketchup

Recipe Directions for Lean Burgers

  1. To prepare burger patties: Mix egg in a cup until yolk and whites are well blended. In a glass bowl, mix egg, bread crumbs, and ground meat. Form into small palm-sized patties. Grill w/out oils or spray on a non-stick electric grill.

  2. Wash lettuce and tomato, chop and slice as desired. Slice cheddar.

  3. Assemble yummy burgers!
