Recipe Ingredients for Le Gran Lasagna

1 onion, finely chopped
800 g plum tomatoes
50 g basil, torn
125 g minced beef, lean
125 g minced pork
2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
2 tbsp parsley, chopped
1 small egg, beaten
2 tbsp olive oil
80 g dried pasta
40 g parmesan cheese, grated
125 g ricotta cheese
250 g mozzarella, reduced fat, torn

Recipe Directions for Le Gran Lasagna

  1. Mix meatballs (minced meat, egg, garlic & parsley), chill for 30 mins then roll into small balls & fry in 1tbsp olive oil till browned. Drain on kitchen paper.

  2. Fry onion in 1tbsp olive oil gently until soft. Add 2 x cans tomatoes, season & stir in basil. Reduce heat, simmer for 25 minutes until broken down & reduced. Set aside.

  3. Spread tomato sauce over bottom of lasagne dish, cover with pasta sheets. Spoon a little more sauce on top, scater with parmesan, then a few meatballs. Dot over some ricotta & mozzarella.

  4. Top with more pasta sheets & repeat, finishing with tomato sauce, meatballs & the cheeses.

  5. Cover with foil & bake at 200C/400F for 30 minutes. Remove foil & bake for further 5 minutes until cheese melted & top is golden brown.
