le French Onion SOUP by Ellie (ME) To make this, you need either a very large pot, wok, or crockpot. If you're doing this in a crockpot, you probably won't follow these directions exactly. All vegetables need to be washed, chopped/diced/minced/whatever. ALSO, fresh is ALWAYS better Prep time: 30 minutes Cook time: 5-7 hours Time you have to actually stand around and watch: 1 hour

Recipe Ingredients for le French Onion Soup - Meal in a cup


Ingredients (in order):
2 lbs chopped steak (for stewing, it's cheaper)
32 oz water
32 oz beef broth
1 tsp flour
6 fl oz Soup, Beef Broth, Cubed
1 large white onion
1 large red onion
1 large yellow onion
3 oz green onion
1 large green pepper
8 cloves garlic
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/8 tsp dried rosemary
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp onion powder

Recipe Directions for le French Onion Soup - Meal in a cup

  1. The first thing I always do is sort through the meat and remove excess fat.

  2. Then, dump all the meat into the pot and fill it with enough water to cover all of the pieces

  3. Turn heat to high and allow to boil. Leave uncovered

  4. stir occassionally until the fat floats to the top as a froth.

  5. Remove froth from top with a spoon.

  6. Add beef broth, lower heat to medium-high

  7. Add gravy flour, stir very well

  8. Add remaining ingredients - If you don't think you can estimate the effect of the spices, that's okay- only add in SMALL amounts and sample 20-30 minutes later before adding more. NEVER ADD SALT UNTIL THE VERY VERY VERY VERY END. IF necessary. Which it probably isn't.!!!!!

  9. Stir until boiling. Cover and lower heat to very low (usually 2 settings above OFF)

  10. Walk. Away. For like, five hours. Then eat. YUM!
