Recipe Ingredients for Lasagna (Before The Sauce) Meat Sauce

1 pound ground beef
1 pound spicy sausage
1 large onion, chopped
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 leaf, bay leaf
2 teaspoons dried basil
2 teaspoons dried oregano
2 tablespoons olive oil
3/4 cup red wine
84 ounce crushed tomatoes
1 carrot, chopped
1 Salt
1 Pepper

Recipe Directions for Lasagna (Before The Sauce) Meat Sauce

  1. Heat oil in a large heavy pot over medium high heat. Brown ground beef and sausage. Stir in onion and cook for 4 minutes. Stir in garlic, bay leaf, basil and oregano. Add wine, tomatoes and carrot. Bring to a boil and reduce heat to medium. Simmer uncovered until sauce has thickened about 45 minutes. Taste and season with salt and pepper.

  2. Yield: 12 cups
