Lebanese yogurt sauce, for serving over meat or veggies. Do *not* use Greek yogurt for the yogurt, unless you like your sauces gritty. A lower fat yogurt will result in a runny sauce, but it isn't the end of the world. I usually use brown cow cream top. I usually serve this over roasted cauliflower and lamb chops.

Recipe Ingredients for Labaniyyah

16 oz yogurt, full fat (not greek!)
1 egg
1/2 tbsp corn starch
1/4 cup onion, browned
1/4 tsp saffron
1/2 cup chicken stock or veggies stock
1/8 tsp salt
1/2 tsp garlic powder

Recipe Directions for Labaniyyah

  1. Brown the onion in a manner of your choice (oil, butter, dry...)

  2. Separate the egg.

  3. Stir the egg white, yogurt, and cornstarch in a small sauce pan off the heat, using a wooden spoon, until mix is even and glossy.

  4. Put pan over medium heat and stir continuously as it comes to a simmer and thickens. I've heard you should only stir it in one direction, but I have no idea what happens if you don't.

  5. Reduce heat and continue to stir for another minute or two.

  6. Whisk the egg yolk with some of the chicken stock, and then whisk that mixture into the yogurt sauce, adding it a drizzle at a time to prevent clumping.

  7. Add stock, spices, and onions

  8. Simmer for another few minutes.

  9. Serve over dish of choice.
