Recipe Ingredients for KOLACHE, VLASTA TRAHAN'S RECIPE

2 pkg dry yeast
1/2 c warm water
1 tbsp sugar
2 c milk, warm
1/3 c sour cream
1/2 c corn oil
3 eggs
2 egg yolks
3/4 c sugar
1/2 tsp salt
7 1/2 c flour

Recipe Directions for KOLACHE, VLASTA TRAHAN'S RECIPE

  1. Mix yeast with 1 tbsp sugar and warm water Let set for 10 minutes. Mix eggs and yolks in warm milk; add sour cream. Add yeast mixture. Stir in about 6 c flour and rest of sugar and salt. Mix well. Let rest for about 15 min; stir slowly. Work dough w/ wooden spoon until smooth. Cover with damp cloth and set in warm place until double in bulk. Punch down and let rise again until double in bulk. Shape 1 tbsp of dough into balls and place on greased cookie sheets. Brush with melted butter. Make a depression in center of each ball and fill with desired fruit filling. Sprinkle each with posypka topping. Let rise until double and bake at 350 for 10-15 minutes. Remove from oven and brush with melted better.

  2. Fillihg:

  3. 1 pkg dry fruit - apples, prunes, apricots or peaches

  4. 1 c water

  5. 1 c sugar

  6. -Cook until soft. Mash or puree in blender, or use ready-made filling - Solo Brand

  7. Posypka or Topping:

  8. 1 c flour

  9. 1 c sugar

  10. 1 c margarine, melted

  11. Mix ingredients until crumbly.
