Recipe Ingredients for Kiwifruit and Apple Chutney (Digby Law's Pickle & Chutney cookbook, A New Zealand Classic)

500 g apples
1 clove garlic
2 tbsp lemon juice
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup cider vinegar
1 cup sultanas
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp cinnamon, ground
1/2 tsp ginger, ground
1/2 tsp cumin, ground
750 g kiwifruit

Recipe Directions for Kiwifruit and Apple Chutney (Digby Law's Pickle & Chutney cookbook, A New Zealand Classic)

  1. Peel, core and cut apples into 1cm cubes.

  2. In a large pot place apples, finely chopped garlic, lemon juice, vinegar, sugar, sultanas, salt and spices.

  3. Stir, bring to boil uncovered and continue to boil gently for 20min stirring often.

  4. Peel kiwifruit and cut into 1cm cubes. Add to pot.

  5. Return to boil and cook slowly, stirring often until chutney is thickened.

  6. Spoon into hot clean jars and seal, makes 1125-1500ml (1.5 litres).
