1/2 Cup brown Basmati Rice 1/2 Cup mung beans 1 tsp margarin 1 tsp cumin seeds 1/2 small onion 1 whole green chilli 1/2 tsp fresh ginger 1/2 garlic clove 1/2 tsp salt 1/4 tsp turmeric 14 oz water 1/4 tsp garam masala 1/2 tsp black pepper

Recipe Directions for khicheri

  1. soak rice and lentils in large pan of water fo 30 minutes.

  2. Melt Margarin, add cumin and fry for 20 seconds, stir in onion and cook until softened.

  3. Add chilli, ginger, garlic and salt and cook for one minute. Add draned rice, lentils, turmerick and water. Bring to the boil briefly before lowering the heat and simmering gently until tender. approx 40 minutes. Add watter as needed.

  4. Once tender add garam masala and black pepper - serve.
