This marinara sauce can be used as a basis for many different meals - imagination!! Of course adding a little Italian Cheese and a bit more olive oil will increase the calories and salt content. Salt and pepper to taste.

Recipe Ingredients for Karen Tomato - Basic

4 large tomatoes (beats the ones in cans, but if you have to use them - use a large can, no salt added.)
16 oz Hunt's Tomato Sauce, no salt added
1/4 large onion
2 cloves fresh garlic
1 T fennel seeds
1 T extra virgin olive oil
1 t red pepper flakes
1 c chicken broth, low sodium

Recipe Directions for Karen Tomato - Basic

  1. Saute onions and garlic - do not burn

  2. Toast fennel seeds in a non stick pan

  3. Core the fresh tomatoes, and remove skins (if you chose)

  4. In a large pan add all tomatoes, when they begin to bubble, add the onions, garlic, fennel seeds and red pepper flakes -

  5. Continue to cook on low heat
