Onioin, carrots, potatoes, and chicken are traditionally added to this. It can be made with just vegetables, or with pork, beef, or seafood, even apples. Try adding chickpeas, mushrooms, red pepper to it.

Recipe Ingredients for Japanese Curry Sauce

2 tbs butter
1 onion, sliced
1 tsp fresh ginger root, grated
1 clove garlic
2 tbs flour
1 tbs curry powder
2 1/2 cup chicken broth, fat free, low sodium
1/2 tsp garam masala

Recipe Directions for Japanese Curry Sauce

  1. Saute onion slices in 1 tbs butter in skillet on low heat until brown.

  2. Add garlic and ginger and saute well. Set aside.

  3. Heat 1 tbs butter in medium pot. Stir in flour and saute on low heat.

  4. Add curry powder and mix well.

  5. Add broth little by little, stirring well.

  6. Add onion mixture to the pot and simmer until thickened.

  7. Add garam masala last.

  8. Serve with rice.
