jambalaya made with Heart Smart brand smoked turkey sausage( half the package). This recipe is pretty low cal, and provides the warmth and fullness of comfort food.

Recipe Ingredients for jambalaya

2 cups brown rice
1/2 lb shrimp
4 oz turkey sausage
2 diced tomatoes
1/2 onion
1/2 red pepper
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
2 tablespoons chili powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon parsley
1/2 tablespoon cumin

Recipe Directions for jambalaya

  1. cook the rice according to the directions on the bag.

  2. Add the two cans of tomatoes(the fire roasted ones are really great), the onion, red pepper and all the spices. Cook for five minutes.

  3. Add the shrimp and sliced sausage all at once.

  4. Cook and additional 8-10 minutes, or until shrimp are cooked and sausage warmed through.
