Turkey sausage and shrimp jambalaya

Recipe Ingredients for Jambalaya

1 medium raw Onion Red
1 cup, diced Celery
1 medium Green Bell Pepper
3 oz Shrimp
4 oz Sausage, Italian, Turkey, Smoked
5 clove Garlic
0.5 tsp Italian Seasoning
2 serving Hunts Tomato Sauce
1 cup Tomatoes Diced
3 cup Rice, Brown, Long-grain, Cooked
1 oz Bay Leaves
2 tsp Franks RedHot Hot Sauce
0.5 tsp Black Pepper
2 serving VIGO EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL
3 tbsp Butter with Olive Oil
5 g Red Chili Powder
1.5 tsp Salt

Recipe Directions for Jambalaya

  1. In a heavy bottomed pot with a lid, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sliced sausage and cook, stirring, for 5 minutes.

  2. Add the red chilli powder, cumin, black pepper, and salt.

  3. Saute the spices for 1 minute

  4. Add the green bell pepper, celery, and onions

  5. cook, stirring for 5 minutes.

  6. add the tomatoes.

  7. Cook stirring for a few minutes to let some of the liquid from the tomatoes evaporate.

  8. Stir in the rice and mix well.

  9. Add the 5 cups of water, turn the heat up to high, and bring to a simmer.

  10. Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and cook for 45 minutes. Remove the lid and check the rice. It should be just tender; if it is still too firm cook longer.

  11. When the rice is tender, add the shrimp, stir in, and cook covered for 5 minutes.

  12. Taste for seasoning, and adjust if needed. Serve the jambalaya in bowls with green onions sprinkled on top.

  13. Note: if you decide to substitute white rice in this jambalaya recipe, you will need to check the recipe after 20 minutes, as it cooks much faster than brown rice.
