Penne Pasta with a tomato sausage sauce. I substitute fresh tomatoes for canned tomatoes when possible.

Recipe Ingredients for Italian Sausage Bake

12 ounce penne pasta
1 pound mild Italian sausage, casings removed
1 cup chopped onion
2 teaspoon olive oil
15 oz. tomato sauce, Italian
14 1/2 ounce diced tomatoes
6 ounce tomato paste
2 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded

Recipe Directions for Italian Sausage Bake

  1. Cook pasta according to the package directions: drain.

  2. Cook sausage and onion in oil in large skillet over medium-high heat, 5 minutes; drain. Stir in tomato sauce, undrained tomatoes, tomato paste and !/2 cup water, chicken broth or wine. Cook, stirring occasionally, 10 minutes.

  3. Combine pasta and sauce in 13 X 9 -inch baking dish. Cover and bake in preheated 350 degree F oven, 20 minutes or until cheese is melted.
