Recipe Ingredients for Italian Penne Pasta with Tomato Cream Sauce Recipe

6 ounces penne pasta, uncooked
1/2 tablespoon olive oil
3/4 cup chopped sweet red pepper
1/4 cup chopped onion
1 clove garlic, minced
14 ounces can tomatoes
1 teaspoon sugar
1/2 tsp dried basil
1/4 tsp freshly ground pepper
1 salt and pepper to taste
1/4 cup 1% milk

Recipe Directions for Italian Penne Pasta with Tomato Cream Sauce Recipe

  1. # While you are preparing the sauce, cook the pasta according to package directions. Don't forget to season the cooking water with salt.

  2. # Heat a large skillet until hot. If it is non stick, spray with non stick spray. If not add a touch of oil. Add the red pepper, onion and garlic, and saute until the vegetables are tender. Add the tomatoes, sugar, basil, salt and pepper. Bring mixture to a boil. Cover, reduce heat, and simmer 10 more minutes. Uncover and cook for an additional few minutes to thicken the sauce. Add the cream and heat through.

  3. # Add pasta, stirring well. Cook over medium heat 2 to 3 minutes or until thoroughly heated. Serve with lots of parmesan cheese.
