Italian Hot Dish Recipe

This dish can be either american or italian with a simple variation of the cheeses. Very kid-friendly.

Recipe Ingredients for Italian Hot Dish

1 1/2 c uncooked macaroni
3/4 pound extra lean ground beef
1 c sliced fresh mushrooms
1/2 c chopped onions
1 c canned tomatoes
1 t dried oregano
1/2 t garlic powder
1/4 t onion powder
1/8 t pepper
1/2 c sharp cheddar cheese

Recipe Directions for Italian Hot Dish

  1. Cook pasta according to package directions and drain. Spray skillet with cooking spray and cook beef, 1/2 C mushrooms, and onion and drain fat. Stir in tomato sauce or crushed tomatoes, oregano, garcli powder, onion powder and pepper and bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer for 15 minutes. Place pasta in an 8" square baking dish coated with cooking spray. Top with meat sauce and remaining mushrooms. Top with meat sauce, remaining musrooms and sprinkle with cheese. Cover and back at 350 for 35 minutes.

  2. Italian variation: substitute cheddar with 1 C part-skim mozzarella cheese and 8 t grated parmesan.
