A lovely tomato sauce for all purposes Italian

Recipe Ingredients for Italian Gravy

1 large carrot, shredded
1 large onion, shredded
3 cloves garlic
2 tablespoons olive oil
15 oz tomato sauce
30 oz diced tomatoes
1/4 cup dried basil
1 T oregano
1 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 pinch red pepper flakes

Recipe Directions for Italian Gravy

  1. Place oil, carrots, onion and garlic in large pan. Once it starts to become translucent, add oregano and basil. Saute and let the herbs release their fragrance. Add tomato sauce and diced tomatoes, stir well. Add remaining ingredients, turn down heat and allow to simmer for 20 minutes. Finally, grab the immersion blender and puree this sauce to your preferred texture (or place COOLED sauce into food processor or blender and puree. DO NOT use HOT sauce in a blender or FP. It will explode on you! Yoikes!
