Recipe Ingredients for Indian Split Pea Dahl

1 cups yellow split peas
3 cups water
1 large onion, chopped
1 small green pepper, chopped
1 teaspoon turmeric
1/2 teaspoon curry powder
1 teaspoon black mustard seeds
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup lemon juice (1 lemon juiced)
1 salt to taste

Recipe Directions for Indian Split Pea Dahl

  1. Simmer split peas in 3 cups water for 30 minutes or until tender. Add more water, if needed.

  2. In another saucepan, simmer chopped onions, green peppers, tumeric, curry powder, mustard seeds and 1/2 cup water for 15 minutes or until onions and peppers are tender. Mix with peas and add lemon juice and salt.

  3. Serve over a generous portion of brown rice. Chutney is a nice accompaniment.
