Chicken and Gravy to serve over rice or mashed potatoes. We invented this during the pregnancy of our first child to produce a bland but tasty supper

Recipe Ingredients for Incredibly Bland Chicken

32 oz Whole Chicken
1 medium (2-1/2" dia) Onions
1 tbsp Oil Olive Extra Virgin
0.67 serving All Purpose Flour

Recipe Directions for Incredibly Bland Chicken

  1. Heat oil over high heat in cast iron Dutch Oven type pan with lid.

  2. Put the whole chicken in with the breast side down and cover with the lid for 5 minutes.

  3. Take the lid off turn the chicken over (breast side up) and add chopped onion and recover for another 5 minutes.

  4. Turn the heat down low and let it cook, covered for at least 90 minutes -- more like 2 hours (don't peak until the 90 minutes has passed). The legs should fall away when you put a wooden spoon between a leg and the body.

  5. Take out the chicken and put it in a bowl, turn the heat off and leave the liquid in the Dutch Oven.

  6. After the chicken has cooled enough for you to be able to handle it, remove the skin and bones and set the meat aside in a bowl.

  7. Take about 1/2 cup of the liquid from the Dutch oven, put it in a shaker, and add the 2 tbsps. of flour and shake it into a thick liquid.

  8. Turn the heat back on and re-heat the chicken liquid to boiling and whisk in the flour mixture to make a gravy, Add boiling water as desired to get a good texture.

  9. Put the meat back in and turn the heat down low again and let it all heat through and mix together.

  10. Serve over rice or potatoes.
