Similar to hash browns, the difference is you fry a big cake to fill it in and serve like an omlette. Lots of calories but not bad nutrition, fantastic for winter days.

Recipe Ingredients for Hungarian potato cake (placek po wegiersku) base

700 g potatoes
1 onion, small
3 tbsp plain flour
7/10 oz semi skimmed milk
1 medium egg
1/2 tsp sea salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1 1/2 tbsp sunflower oil

Recipe Directions for Hungarian potato cake (placek po wegiersku) base

  1. Grate potatoes and onion. Drain potatoes, add onion, flour, egg and milk and mix well.

  2. Heat the pan, drizzle a little bit of oil. The best is to use spray oil to distribute it evenly in the pan.

  3. Pour a mixture to create a thin cake (half thickness of traditional hash brown). Fry 6 minutes on each side or until golden.

  4. You can serve it with any filling you want.
