Recipe Ingredients for Honey Whole-Wheat Bread

2 pkgs yeast
1/2 cup warm water
1/3 cup honey
1/4 cup margarine
2 teaspoons salt
1 3/4 cups warm water
5 1/2 cups whole wheat flour

Recipe Directions for Honey Whole-Wheat Bread

  1. In large bowl, dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup warm water. Add honey, butter, salt, 1 3/4 cups warm water, and 4 cups whole wheat flour. Beat on low speed 1 ninute, scaping bowl frequently. Beat on medium speed 1 minute,scraping bowl frequently. Stir in enough of the reamining 1 to 1 1/4 cups flour to make dough easy to handle.

  2. On lightly floured surface, knead dough about 10 minutes or until smooth and springy. Spray large bowl with cooking spray and place dough in bowl, turning to coat. Cover and let rise 1 hour or until doubled.

  3. Grease bottoms and sides of two loaf pans with cooking spray. Divide dough in half, and shape into loaves. Sprinkle with whole wheat flour or crushed oats if desired. Cover and let rise in a warm place about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

  4. Move oven rack to low position so he tops of pans will be in the center of the oven. Heat oven to 375 and bake 25-30 minutes until loaves are deep golden brown and sound hollow when tapped. Remove from pans to cooling rack and cool.
