Makes 8 servings

This is my family's recipe for spaghetti sauce. If you break into 8 servings then it equals out to about 1 cup per serving. Since I have a wide range of stomachs in my family we don't always get 8 servings out of the batch.

Recipe Ingredients for Homestyle Spaghetti Sauce

1 pound lean hamburger, 99% lean
1 medium onion, chopped
4 cloves garlic, diced
1 medium bell pepper, chopped
1 cup mushrooms, sliced
12 ounce tomato paste
24 ounce tomato sauce
14 1/2 ounce diced tomatoes
2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil

Recipe Directions for Homestyle Spaghetti Sauce

  1. Sweat the onions, bell pepper and garlic in the olive oil over low heat.

  2. Turn the heat up to medium high and add the mushrooms to saute for 3-5 minutes.

  3. Add the hamburger and brown until well done.

  4. Add the tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, and tomato paste. Add seasonings to taste (e.g. italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, pepper, etc).

  5. Reduce heat to low and let simmer for 10 to 15 minutes. Also great to prepare in advance and reheat the next day.
