My homemade tomato sauce, sugar is necessary to combat the acidity of the tomatoes. Perfect for spaghetti, meatballs, sausage, etc.

Recipe Ingredients for Homemade Tomato Sauce

28 oz crushed tomatoes
28 oz crushed tomatoes
6 oz tomato paste
4 tbsp sugar
1 onion
4 cloves garlic
1 tbsp olive oil

Recipe Directions for Homemade Tomato Sauce

  1. Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in large sauce pan. Chop 1 medium onion and add to oil. Saute until transparent. Add chopped garlic cloves. Saute until golden brown.

  2. Add two cans crushed tomatoes, 1 can tomato paste and 3 additional cans of water measured in paste can.

  3. Add 4 tbsp sugar and additional spices (approximately 1 tbsp granulated garlic, onion and Italian seasoning, also 1 bayleaf)

  4. Bring to boil, stirring frequently, and then bring sauce down to simmer.
