1950's style Spanish Rice recipe from Betty Crocker

Recipe Ingredients for Homemade Spanish Rice

16 oz raw 90% Lean Ground Sirloin
1 medium (2-1/2" dia) Onions
0.66 cup, chopped Peppers, Sweet, Red
1 cup Rice, White, Long-grain, Regular
1 tsp Chili Powder
0.5 tsp Salt, Table
0.25 tsp Pepper, Black
2 cup (8 fl oz) Water
16 oz Whole Tomatoes
2 oz American Cheese
0.25 cup, shredded Cheddar Cheese

Recipe Directions for Homemade Spanish Rice

  1. Cook and stir meat and onion in large skillet until meat is brown. Drain off fat. break tomatoes into smaller pieces add to beef mixture, Stir in remaining ingredients, less cheeses.

  2. To Cook In Skillet: Heat mixture to boiling. Reduce heat; cover and simmer, stirring occasionally, until rice is tender, about 30 minutes. (A small amount of water can be added if necessary.) When rice is cooked through, stir in cheeses and serve.
