Homemade pizza made with whole wheat flour.

Recipe Ingredients for Homemade Pizza

1 cup whole wheat flour
1 cup unbleached all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon yeast
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
3/4 cup water
1 cup chopped tomatoes
1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon hot pepper flakes
1/4 onion
1 clove of garlic
1 tablespoon Parmesan cheese
2 tablespoons mozarella
3 tablespoons cheddar
1/4 red bell pepper
1 tomato

Recipe Directions for Homemade Pizza

  1. To make the dough: Mix yeast in with room-temperature water and let sit for five minutes. Add flour, salt, and olive oil. Knead for five minutes - the dough should be relatively sticky.

  2. To make the sauce: Add the tomatoes (canned tomatoes are fine) into a saucepan with the lemon juice (fresh is preferred), balsamic vinegar, red pepper flakes, and salt to taste. Let simmer for half an hour.

  3. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper, and top the parchment paper with cornmeal. Oil your hands and pick up the sticky pizza dough. Stretch it in a circular form a bit before transferring to the parchment paper. Press to stretch out further until the dough is about 1/4 inch thick.

  4. Lightly spread the tomato sauce over the dough. Top with the rest of the ingredients and bake on a pizza stone in a 500 degree oven for about 10 minutes.
