Serving is one pocket (1/8 of dough).

Recipe Ingredients for Homemade Pita Pockets

1 1/2 cups water
3 cups flour
1 tsp salt
1 tbsp vegetable oil
1 1/2 tsp sugar
1 1/2 tsp yeast

Recipe Directions for Homemade Pita Pockets

  1. Mix sugar, vegetable oil, and yeast into the warm water.

  2. Mix salt into the flour, then add the liquid ingredients. Kneed until smooth.

  3. Roll dough out into a log then cut into 8 equal pieces.

  4. For each piece, roll into a ball then flatten into a circle. These should be thin or else they may not rise.

  5. Let flattened rounds rise for 30 minutes, covered. While rising, preheat oven to 500 degrees (F).

  6. Cook rounds on a wire rack over a cookie sheet for 4-5 minutes or until lightly browned. If the first set of rounds do not rise well, try adjusting the heat higher or flattening the rest slightly thinner.
