You may alter this recipe however you fancy. The basic design is 12 cups dry ingredients to 1 cup oil-honey mixture, but you can even change that ratio.

Recipe Ingredients for Homemade multigrain fruit & nut granola

8 cups old-fashioned oatmeal
1 cup raw bran, oat or wheat
1/4 cup flax seed
1/2 cup sunflower seed
1/2 cup coconut
1 cup nuts, chopped
1 cup raisins or dried fruit, coarsely chopped
1/2 cup honey
1/2 cup olive oil

Recipe Directions for Homemade multigrain fruit & nut granola

  1. Mix all dry ingredients in very large bowl. Set aside.

  2. Mix oil and honey in microwave-safe bowl. Heat in microwave on medium power until just hot - watch that it does not pop or boil over. Note - oil and honey won't really mix!

  3. Make a well in the dry ingredients and pour in heated oil and honey mixture. Mix thoroughly with a wooden spoon. Use a chopping motion to break down the clumping action of the moistened oatmeal and bran. Mind your fingers as the oil and honey will be hot.

  4. Spread the mixture about 1 to 2 inches deep in baking pans. Toast at 350 for 8 minutes. Remove from oven and stir with a wooden spoon. Return to the oven for another 8 minutes or just until you see the oatmeal beginning to brown at the edges of the pan.

  5. Pour granola from baking pans into a large bowl and stir occasionally while it cools completely. Store in airtight containers at room temperature for up to 3 weeks.
