No salt or sugar added, this is an authentic Italian recipe from my grandfather

Recipe Ingredients for Homemade Marinara sauce

28 oz whole tomatoes
4 cloves garlic
2 tbsp olive oil
1 can tomato paste
2 tbsp basil
2 tbsp oregano

Recipe Directions for Homemade Marinara sauce

  1. Put the olive oil in the bottom of a pan; mince or crush garlic and add to olive oil. Heat on medium until garlic begins to brown slightly.

  2. The tomatoes should be the type that come in tomato juice. Add both tomatoes and the juice from the can to the pan and bring to a boil, crushing the tomatoes with a spoon. Reduce to a simmer.

  3. Add tomato paste to thicken sauce. Add herbs (any others, to taste, are great!) and stir all in until sauce is thickened and simmering. Cover tightly and simmer for at least 20 minutes.

  4. For thinner sauce, add only 1/2 can tomato paste. The thicker sauce works well on pizza. Serve over pasta, vegetables, meats, whatever you like!
