Everyone has their own personal tastes, but I find this is cheaper and tastes just as good as the store bought stuff. I am also trying to revamp this to cut back on the calories, but it's tough. The normal serving size is 1 oz, but I find the half oz (2 T) is plenty for 1 pancake.

Recipe Ingredients for Homemade Maple Syrup (1/2 serving)

1 1/2 cups brown sugar
1/2 cup sugar
1 1/2 cups water
1 cup light corn syrup
1 t maple extract
1 t vanilla extract

Recipe Directions for Homemade Maple Syrup (1/2 serving)

  1. In a saucepan, combine sugars, water and corn syrup; bring to a boil over medium heat.

  2. Boil for 7 minutes or until slightly thickened.

  3. Remove from heat and add extracts.

  4. Cool for 15 minutes.

  5. Serve over waffles, pancakes, french toast, etc...

  6. Cool completely before storing.
