Made from scratch Whole Wheat Mac and Cheese.

Recipe Ingredients for Homemade Mac and Cheese

8 ounces dried whole wheat elbow macaroni
2 tablespoons margarine
2 tablespoons whole wheat flour
1/8 teaspoon black pepper
2 1/2 cups skim milk
6 ounces shredded American cheese (1 1/2 cups)

Recipe Directions for Homemade Mac and Cheese

  1. Cook macaroni according to package directions. Drain; set aside.

  2. Meanwhile, for cheese sauce, in a medium saucepan melt butter and stir in flour and pepper. Add milk all at once. Cook and stir over medium heat until slightly thickened and bubbly. Add cheeses, stirring until melted. Stir in cooked macaroni. Transfer mixture to a 2-quart casserole.

  3. Bake, uncovered, in a 350 degree F oven for 25 to 30 minutes or until bubbly and heated through. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.
