Makes 8 servings



Omit pecans to lower fat and calories. Also consider substituting oat bran for the wheat germ to lower calories.

Recipe Ingredients for Homemade Granola

3 cups rolled oats
1 apple, fresh, grated
1/2 cup wheat germ
1/4 cup honey
1/4 cup water
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup pecans
1 teaspoon vanilla

Recipe Directions for Homemade Granola

  1. Combine oats, apple, oat bran in a bowl; mix well.

  2. In a small saucepan stir together water, honey and cinnamon. Bring to a boil, remove from heat. Add vanilla.

  3. Pour over oat mixture and mix well.

  4. Spray 15x10x1 inch pan. Spread mixture evenly in the pan. Bake in a 325 degree oven for approximately 45 minutes or until golden brown, stirring occasionally. Spread on foil until cool. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

  5. Makes eight 1/2 cup servings.
