Amazingly tasty granola bars that will make you feel like you're eating something healthy. All natural, no preservatives/high fructose/hydrogenated...you don't get THAT from a box. Try it. If you like granola bars, you won't be sorry.

Recipe Ingredients for Homemade granola bars

2 cups oatmeal, old fashion, uncooked
1 cup almonds or other nuts, crushed or chopped
3/4 cup wheat germ
3/4 cup flax meal
3/4 cup sunflower seeds
2/3 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup honey
4 tbsp butter
2 tsp vanilla extract
2 tsp cinnamon, ground
1/2 tsp salt
1 1/2 cups rasins or other dried fruit

Recipe Directions for Homemade granola bars

  1. preheat oven to 400 degrees

  2. Combine oats, nuts, wheat germ, flax meal and sunflower seeds. Spread on jelly-roll pan and toast in oven for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  3. line 9x11 cassarole with wax paper. spray lightly with non-stick cooking spray.

  4. heat brown sugar, honey, salt and butter in small sauce pan until a boil begins.

  5. remove sugar mixture from heat and stir in cinnamon and vanilla.

  6. combine all ingredients, including fruit, in large bowl. Mix until all mixture is coated and sticky.

  7. dump mix into cassarole and press down HARD with another sheet of wax paper.

  8. allow to cool completely, remove from pan (using hairdryer to warm wax paper for easy removal if necessary)

  9. cut into 12 bars.
