I am a sucker for homemade tortillas. Here's the recipe we use at our house. Rolling 30 tortillas is a bit time consuming, otherwise a fairly easy recipe. (Not diet food, so watch those quantities!)

Recipe Ingredients for Homemade Flour Tortillas

6 cup flour
2 T baking powder
1 T salt
1/2 cup Crisco
1/2 cup butter
2 cup water

Recipe Directions for Homemade Flour Tortillas

  1. Combine flour, baking powder and salt.

  2. Cut in Crisco and butter into the flour mixture.

  3. With a wooden spoon, mix in warm water.

  4. Knead for 3 minutes, then let rest for 20 minutes.

  5. Divide into 30 balls

  6. Roll into circles as thin as possible and cook on a medium-high pan. Turn when bubbles start to form and give the second side only about a minute.

  7. Stack in a towel lined basket and cover with a towel to keep warm and moist.
