Recipe Ingredients for Homemade Banana Bread

1 cup sugar
1/4 cup apple sauce, unsweetened
1 egg
1 1/2 cups bananas
1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder

Recipe Directions for Homemade Banana Bread

  1. The bananas should be very, very ripe -- almost black. You will also need a bread pan for baking the banana bread.

  2. Begin by preheating the over to 350 degrees and greasing the bread pan. Now, we will mash the bananas, using either a fork or a potato masher.

  3. Mix Banana Bread Ingredients

  4. In a large bowl, mix together the bananas, the sugar, the egg and the apple sauce. In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, the baking powder, and the salt. Now, gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ones, stirring as you go.

  5. Bake the Banana Bread

  6. Fill the bread pan approximately 1/3 full and put it in the oven. Let the banana bread bake for about an hour, until it starts to turn dark brown. You should be able to stick in a knife and have it come out clean. Let it cool in the pan before removing and slicing.
