Delicious and easy homemade bagels.

Recipe Ingredients for Homemade Bagels

1 tsp active dry yeast
1 1/4 cups milk
1/4 cup butter
2 tbs sugar
1 tsp salt
1 egg yolk
2 1/2 cups flour

Recipe Directions for Homemade Bagels

  1. In mixing bowl, dissolve yeast in warm milk. Add the butter, sugar, salt and egg yolk; mix well.

  2. Stir in enough flour to form soft dough (original recipe called for 3.75 cups flour...so use your discretion...I only needed 2 cups)

  3. Turn onto floured surface. Knead until elastic. About 6-8 minutes.

  4. Place in greased bowl, turning once to grease the top. Let rise, covered, until double in size, about one hour.

  5. Shape into 12 balls. Poke 1 inch holes in them. Let rest and cover for 10 minutes.

  6. In a large sauce pan boil water. Drop in one at a time and remove once they bob to the top.

  7. Place on a baking sheet 2 in. apart and bake for 20-25 mins at 400 degrees F.

  8. Remove from pans to wire racks to cool.

  9. Enjoy!
